I had the revelation that I really loved directing back in college when I was putting together a cabaret of “feel-good” musical theater songs for Syracuse Stage’s After Ours Series…my mother’s reply was “Well are you really surprised? You always like being in charge of things!” |

Little did my mother realize that it’s not philosophically correct to say the director is the one who is “in charge of things.” And, lots of people in this business would have her head for saying it. But, she’s right; I do like to be the leader and I shouldn’t have been surprised. Deep down inside, I always knew I should be a director. |

My directing resume is the youngest of my resumes. (Download my directing resume as a .pdf file or a Word (.doc) document.) But my background as a performer, musical director, and teaching artist are constantly teaching me how to be a superb director. I am dedicated to my growth as a director in the coming years and hope to expand upon the company I began with Kevin Scott Collins, Box of Crayons Productions. My daughter Rachel (performer) and I (spotlight) worked with Joey on the Novato, CA production of “HONK”. It was a fabulous experience for us both. Joey’s love of theatre and professionalism was contagious. He made the process fun and instructive at the same time. We sincerely hope he returns for another season! Bill Kane Working with Joey is really great as both a performer, and as a person. I got a chance to explore different parts of my singing voice, my acting ability, and different emotions in myself that I never really knew I had. There was a perfect mesh between us because while he directed he still valued input and thoughts that I could have about my performance and how I felt I should be doing it. A lot of the methods and analogies he used with me really help me in shows that I do now, as well as helping my friends in their dramatic experiences. I'm really glad that we were able to form a bond as actor/director, but also two friends. Vanessa Bautista Working with Joey Clark on NY ART's production of Honk last season was a true pleasure. Joey's thoughtful, professional, and dedicated approach to his work made it a fabulous experience for all involved. I truly hope that we have the opportunity to create togetheragain in the future. Susan Soriano, Choreographer for Honk Joey Clark directed our Novato Young Artists Repertory Theatre 2004 summer production of the musical "HONK". The show was a huge success thanks to Joey's directorial skills and leadership. His knowledge of every aspect of the theatre along with his excellent musical direction background, made him the overall candidate for the job. We were not disappointed! The teens in the program flourished under his wing and delivered yet another professional production to add to the NY*ART repertoire. It was an honor and a pleasure to meet and work with Joey. I hope I have the privilege to work with him again. . . . Sandy Bowler, Producer, Novato Young Artists Repertory Theatre |
